Device and Internet Verification

The device and internet verification steps outlined below must be performed on the devices that students will be using for the assessment.

The PCAP assessment is accessed online through a secure browser on school devices.

The minimum device requirements are as follows:

 Electronic Device  Requirements Screen Size
Microsoft computer Windows 7–64 bit, 8.1, 10 or 11 Minimum Screen Size:
11.6-inch diagonal
Mac computer OSX 10.14–OS 13.1
Chromebook Chrome OS 62+
Managed environment required via
Google for Education account

If the electronic devices used in your school do not meet the minimum requirements listed above, then it will not be possible to use these devices for the PCAP assessment. Please note that tablet devices (e.g., iPad, Samsung Galaxy Tab) are not compatible with the PCAP assessment.

Use of personal electronic devices

Students may use their own electronic devices (Microsoft or Mac computers) to participate in PCAP, if such usage aligns with your school board/district policy. If students will be using their own electronic devices, ask students to install the secure browser on the applicable device before assessment day.

Please note that since Chromebooks require a managed environment, students will not be able to use their own personal Chromebooks to take the assessment.

If there are no compatible devices at the school, CMEC will send up to 25 laptops for the school to administer the assessment.

Additionally, if no internet access is available within your school, CMEC will send a portable wifi device to enable an internet connection (in such cases, the school needs to be located in a region with cellular coverage).

The school contact may be requested to change the assessment date depending on laptop and/or portable wifi device availability.
