Step 7: Run the Practice Tool

The Practice Tool is a sample test to familiarize students, the test administrator, or the school contact with the functionalities of the assessment.

Using the Practice Tool with students is optional; however, it is highly recommended that the test administrator and school contact run through it to be familiar with the platform on assessment day.

A few days before the first assessment session, the school contact or the test administrator should verify that the devices students will be using all have the secure browser installed. Verification can be performed in conjunction with running the Practice Tool with students.

To access the Practice Tool:

  • Microsoft or Mac computers: Open the secure browser and select “Practice Tool” in the top menu. Follow the numbered steps listed below.
  • Chromebooks: Open the secure browser app in “Kiosk mode” (IT support may be required) and select “Practice Tool” in the top menu. Follow the numbered steps listed below.
  1. Open the Practice Tool and click “Continue.”
  2. Optional: You may select to use the Practice Tool in one of the four alternative formats: audio, dyslexia font, large print, or coloured background.
    1. Click “Instructions” to learn more about the alternative formats.
  3. Click “Continue” to navigate to the test instructions. 
  4. Click “Next” after each instruction, then scroll to the bottom of the page and click “Start Assessment.”
  5. Answer the 14 sample questions and click “Next” after answering each one.
  6. Once you complete all questions, click “Submit” in the bottom-right corner.
  7. Click “Close” to exit the Practice Tool and the secure browser.
