D. Complete Device and Internet Verification
The device and internet verification steps outlined below must be performed on the devices that students will be using for the assessment.
Whitelist Domains
It is important that schools whitelist all the domains listed below and all subdomains in these domains. TIMSS will use these domains and subdomains for the assessment, so they should all be marked as trusted.
Whitelist the following domains:
www.cmec.ca
https://timss.iea-online.net
https://timss.am.rm.com
https://timss-odc.net
https://www.speedtest.net/
Device Requirements
The TIMSS Player hosts the assessment and is typically accessed online via school or student devices.
TIMSS Player minimum device requirements are as follows:
| Compatible Devices |
Browser |
Screen Resolution |
Screen Size |
PCs
Chromebooks
Macs |
The latest version of Google Chrome is strongly recommended
(or no more than two versions behind) |
At least 1280 x 800 or 1366 x 768 |
12″ or more recommended,
9.7″ minimum |
Note that the TIMSS Player is not compatible with tablets nor iPads. It is compatible with any operating system (OS) that can run a modern browser (Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, Internet Explorer 11, Edge, Safari, Opera). The browser version should be up to date or no more than two versions behind the latest available version.
To determine your school’s device and internet compatibility with the TIMSS Player, a designated staff person (e.g., the test administrator, principal, or IT specialist) should follow the steps in the “Device and Internet Verification” section of the School Information Form. Verifying and reporting the verification results will enable CMEC staff to confirm your school’s device and internet compatibility. In the event that school or student devices or internet are found to be incompatible, CMEC will communicate with your school to send USB keys and/or up to 25 laptops to administer the assessment. The school contact may be requested to change the assessment date depending on laptop availability.
