2018 OECD Skills Summit, June 28–29, 2018, Porto, Portugal

This report contains the main highlights of the June 2018 Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) Skills Summit, which was co-organized by the OECD and the government of Portugal. Exploring the theme of “skills for a digital world,” the summit focused on three main areas: risks and opportunities in a digital world; rethinking education and lifelong learning policies; and better skills policies for tomorrow’s world. Participants discussed the impact of digitalization on workplaces, what governments are doing to ensure that citizens are equipped with the skills they need to participate effectively in an increasingly digitalized world, and how institutional policies can be redesigned to be more responsive to the challenges and opportunities of a digitized world.

Education World Forum, London, United Kingdom, January 19-22, 2014

This report summarizes the main issues discussed at the 2014 Education World Forum held in London, UK, from January 19 to 22, 2014. Under the theme of “Planning for 2015 — Policy-making catalyst for a decade ahead: measurement, reach and enterprise,” education ministers and officials discussed issues such as the impact of data on learning, driving improvement in education, and youth employment challenges and solutions.

Establishing a Pan-Canadian Credential Assessment Centre for Internationally Educated Teachers

This report describes the findings from a feasibility study on establishing pan-Canadian centres for the assessment of the credential of internationally educated teachers (IETs). The study developed summary profiles for each Canadian province and territory, identifying commonalities and differences in the current processes and practices for IET credential assessment across Canada and evaluated best practices in other contexts of credential assessment. It then drew upon previous reports, as well as focus groups, to synthesize its findings into a proposed model for the country. The study was designed to provide recommendations for a pan-Canadian method of assessing the credentials of IETs.

The event brought together more than 100 ministers of education to discuss their experiences in education policy-making.

18th Conference of Commonwealth Education Ministers (CCEM), August 28–31, 2012, Pailles, Mauritius

This report summarizes the main issues discussed at the 18th Conference of Commonwealth Education Ministers (CCEM), held in August 2012 in Mauritius. It also provides the main messages conveyed by the Canadian delegation to participants. The theme for the 2012 conference was “Education in the Commonwealth: Bridging the Gap as We Accelerate Towards Achieving Internationally Agreed Goals (IAGs).”

5th APEC Education Ministerial Meeting

This report contains the main outcomes of the 5th APEC Education Ministerial Meeting, which took place May 21–23, 2012, in Korea. The meeting focused on topics such as globalization and education, innovation in education, and education cooperation. At the conclusion of the meeting, ministers adopted a joint statement, “Envisioning Together for the Future and Hope,” pledging to continue to foster regional innovative growth, promote future skills suitable for the global society, create innovative instructional delivery systems, and foster more collaborative policy decisions.

Report on the PCERA 1999 Pan-Canadian Research Agenda Symposium

In early August 1998, CESC circulated a request for proposals to the education research community. Researchers were asked to write a proposal to develop a 6000-word paper that both reviewed the current state of research and proposed research questions for a pan-Canadian agenda on any one of the priority subjects that constituted the PCERA. Twelve papers were completed and presented at the PCERA Symposium.

A Systematic Review of the Effectiveness and Efficiency of Networked ICT in Education

In 2001, the Advisory Committee for On-line Learning - a joint committee of the Council of Ministers of Education, Canada (CMEC) and Industry Canada - developed a research agenda related to on-line learning, from which the topic for this review was derived. In order to make informed and justifiable decisions about the allocation of resources, the government needed research evidence about the use of information and communication technologies (ICT) in lifelong education. This report reviews the effectiveness and efficiency of on-line and networked learning through an extensive international literature review, including summaries of relevant studies, analysis of general themes, gaps, and results, and the presentation of conclusions and recommendations.

Fourth APEC Education Ministerial Meeting, Lima, Peru, June 11-12, 2008

The 4th APEC Education Ministerial Meeting focused on the theme of "21st Century Competencies and Skills for All," and the four sub-themes of math and science, career and technical education, language learning, and information and communications technologies and systemic reform. This report details Canada's contributions and bilateral meetings during the event and provides the main discussion document.
