PCAP is highly complex methodologically, requiring intensive collaboration among stakeholders. The PCAP 2016 Technical Report describes those methodologies, along with other features that have enabled PCAP to provide high- quality data. The information gained by this pan-Canadian assessment provides ministers of education with a basis for examining the curriculum and other aspects of their school systems. The descriptions are provided at a level that will enable review and, potentially, replication of the implemented procedures and technical solutions to problems.
Accessing the data sets for research
The PCAP 2016 datasets include data for the ten Canadian provinces. It provides interesting research opportunities by connecting student performance to their individual characteristics as well as characteristics of their teachers and schools.
The 2016 dataset is available in SPSS and Excel formats, with labels defined in English or French, and codebooks available in both national languages.
