PCAP 2016 Report on the Pan-Canadian Assessment of Science, Reading, and Mathematics

The Pan-Canadian Assessment Program (PCAP), a collaborative effort among Canadian provinces and territories, is a survey of the knowledge and skills of students in Grade 8/Secondary II in the core subject areas. The 2016 report describes the performance of Grade 8 students in the third administration of PCAP, in which the major domain was science and the secondary or minor domains were reading and mathematics. CMEC developed PCAP to ensure the availability of statistically valid, comparable data on student achievement which can be used by education researchers, policy-makers, and government officials to understand and make improvements to provincial and territorial education systems.

PIRLS 2016 international report

The Progress in International Reading Literacy Study (PIRLS) is an international assessment that measures trends in reading achievement of Grade 4 students, as well as policies and practices related to literacy. In 2016, ePIRLS was created as an extension to PIRLS as an innovative assessment of on-line reading. Both the PIRLS and ePIRLS reports provide information on the reading skills of Grade 4 students and describe home and school supports for literacy in Canada. Results are reported at both pan-Canadian and international levels.

TIMSS 2015 Canadian Results from the Trends in International Mathematics and Science Study

This report presents the Canadian results of the Trends in International Mathematics and Science Study (TIMSS) 2015. It provides information on the mathematics and science achievement at the Grade 4 and Grade 8/Secondary II levels and describes factors influencing learning in the home and school environment in Canada. Results are reported at both Canadian and international levels, with comparisons across participating Canadian provinces as well as with participating countries.

Measuring up: Canadian Results of the OECD PISA 2015 Study - The Performance of Canadian 15-Year-Olds in Financial Literacy

This report provides a high-level description of the Canadian results from the financial literacy component of the 2015 Program for International Student Assessment (PISA). The report presents both national and provincial results and complements the information presented in the PISA 2015 international report.

PISA is a triennial survey of the knowledge and skills of 15-year-olds near the end of their compulsory schooling. The report presents both national and provincial results in science, reading, and mathematics, and complements the information presented in the PISA 2015 international report.

PISA 2015 Results: Excellence and Equity in Education

This report provides the initial results from OECD's PISA 2015. PISA is a triennial survey of the knowledge and skills of 15-year-olds near the end of their compulsory schooling. The major focus of the 2015 assessment was science, with a secondary focus on reading and mathematics. Results are compared across 72 countries and economies around the world.

Assessment Matters! is a series of policy-oriented research notes designed to explore educational issues in Canada and Canadian jurisdictions. These notes are based on the results of international and national assessment programs, including the Pan-Canadian Assessment Program (PCAP), the Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA), the Progress in International Reading Literacy Study (PIRLS), and the Trends in International Mathematics and Science Study (TIMSS).

PCAP 2013 Technical Report

PCAP is methodologically highly complex, requiring intensive collaboration among stakeholders. The PCAP 2013 Technical Report describes those methodologies, along with other features that have enabled PCAP to provide high quality data. The descriptions are provided at a level that will enable review and, potentially, replication of the implemented procedures and technical solutions to problems.

PCAP 2013 Contextual Report on Student Achievement in Science

This report examines the results from PCAP 2013 in relation to variables derived from questionnaires completed by students, teachers, and school principals. It reports the results both descriptively and using simple and multiple regression models.
