Mobility is a fact of life as both students and teachers move from one province or territory to another – and seek to continue their education or their careers with as little disruption and complication as possible.
- Student mobility: As secondary school students move from one jurisdiction to another, it is important that they are able to be placed in the appropriate level in the new system with minimal gaps and repetitions. CMEC has developed a Student Transfer Guide to facilitate this process.
- Teacher mobility: Provincial and territorial regulatory bodies for the teaching profession from all 13 provinces and territories in Canada have collaborated over the years to facilitate teacher mobility. For example, this work included the reconciliation of provincial/territorial policies and practices, with respect to the Canadian Free Trade Agreement (CFTA), as well as establishing the new Pathways to Teach Canada service to support internationally educated teachers (IETs) who want to teach in Canada.
