Step 1: Set Up the Room

On the day of the assessment, the test administrator should be present at least one hour before the assessment session begins, to prepare the room before students arrive.

The following schedule outlines the recommended timeline for the PIRLS administration.

Setting up testing room and logging in each student to their device  At least 30 minutes for test administrator only (before students' arrival and depending on number of students)
Assigning students to their devices, reading instructions from script, preparing for Part 1 30 minutes
Part 1 of PIRLS test  40 minutes
Short break Up to 30 minutes
Preparing for Part 2 5 to 10 minutes
Part 2 of PIRLS test  40 minutes
Break  Short break or lunch break (depending on school schedule)
Filling out the Student Questionnaire 30 to 35 minutes
Total  3 to 3.5 hours

A workstation with a device previously verified for PIRLS compatibility and fully equipped with a keyboard, mouse, and power supply (ensuring sufficient charging of the device) should be prepared for each participating student.

Schools will need to ensure that the room has an internet connection (either through wifi or a network cable).
