Some examples of literacy activities in Nunavut:

  • Early childhood programs Within Nunavut's Education Act there is a requirement that local District Education Authorities (DEAs) provide an early childhood program that promotes fluency in the Inuit language and knowledge of Inuit culture. This not only helps to strengthen the Inuit language, it also encourages and strengthens literacy.

  • The Development of Literacy and Self-Awareness through Performance Art The project's objective is to enhance and develop reading and writing skills; develop social communications and public-speaking skills; strengthen the professional skills of established Nunavut performing artists; and develop original written resources for Nunavut adult learners.
